Back as the top male player of the year Roland Renaud teamed up with Dorothy Joubert to finish with a maximum 16 points after winning all their eight games of the competition played on a round-robin league format.

What was originally planned as a triplette competition was finally played a doublette with the top players seeded. The remaining female and male players were drawn to pair with the nine seeded players.

Second were the pair of Collin Esparon and Ranga Chetty with six wins in eight matches played.
Three teams were tied on 10 points and the organisers had to use the score difference rule to decide their final placings.

With a score difference of +22, Joseph Charles and Marie-May Savy finished third, followed in fourth place by Antonio Gopal and Nicholas Chang-Time with +7. Janny Sandapin and Auguste Louise settled for fifth position with +6.

Sunday’s open mixed doublette competition was the last competition on the Seychelles Petanque Association (SPA) calendar and chairperson Marie-May Savy is happy with what she has seen throughout.

“I’m very happy with how the competitions had been organised and the turnout of the players. One of our objectives this year was to organise a junior competition for players who are not already playing petanque. The turnout was fantastic with school children from English River secondary school, La Rosière primary school and the Foyer de Nazareth turning up,” said Mrs Savy.
