New film on sacred sites to be screened at Deepam Cinema |17 January 2013

The film, entitled STILL POINT, is about sacred sites and places of pilgrimage.

It transports audience from the site of the humble wooden structures offering refuge along Pilgrims’ Way in Northumberland to contested sacred sites in Jerusalem and interior spaces of abandoned Syrian villages in the Golan Heights.

The special showing, which is free of charge, is being hosted by Arterial Network Seychelles in collaboration with Deepam Cinema.

Before viewing the film, those present will have the chance to learn more on Mrs Chan’s work and they will be able to ask the artist questions.

Mrs Chan filmed at the Wailing Wall, the church of the Holy Sepulchre, the Dome of rock and the Al Aqsa mosque in Jerusalem.

She also filmed in two old Syrian villages near Gilabon stream, north of the Sea of Galilee, Golan Heights and the Holy Island of Lindisfarne in Northumberland.

In post-production she worked with sound artist Erik Skodvin to create a soundtrack that both complements and enhances her imagery.
Mrs Chan’s work has been screened in Spain, United States of America (USA), Singapore, Japan and China.

Her work is included in public and private collections in the United Kingdom and USA, including David Roberts Arts Foundation, the Ingram collection and the Celebrity Art collection.

Mrs Chan was one six artists featured in BBC2’s School of Saatchi, a four-part television series where young artists compete against each others, showcasing their talents, for a chance to be chosen by famous art collector Charles Saatchi to showcase their work in a worldwide renowned gallery.
