Assembly seeks closer ties with ministries

The workshop, which took place last week, was designed to give the delegates greater insight into how the assembly functions and at the same time learn more about procedures which guide the working of the institution, hence to better appreciate the role of ministers in the legislative process such as introducing bills and answering questions from members.

Held at the National Assembly, the workshop was run by clerk Azarel Ernesta and the different heads of units, who also briefed the delegates on the roles and functions of their respective units.

Delegates were taken through comprehensive presentations on topics covering the organisation of the National Assembly secretariat, the organisation of assembly business and the services provided to members.

At the end of the programme, the delegates were taken on a tour of the building where they had the opportunity to see the various facilities available in the National Assembly building.

“Personal assistants and private secretaries are among our closest partners in the executive and the workshop was an opener to avenues of greater cooperation between us. It was an opportunity for us to further strengthen our partnership. We therefore anticipate a closer collaboration and a better working relationship,” Ms Ernesta said.
