Seychelles reaffirms its commitment to work with Asean |11 February 2013

During the discussions, Mr Barito took the opportunity to update the secretary general on the ongoing progress of the Forum of Small and Medium Enterprise for Africa and Asia (FORSEAA) which was initiated in September 2012 in Jakarta by Seychelles and the Indonesian Ministry of Cooperative and SME, the Ministry of Industry, together with officials from the Indonesia Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Ambassadors from African and Asian countries who had attended the September meeting had expressed their firm support of the forum as a prerequisite to improving the connection between the small and medium businesses in Africa and Asia as well as to strengthen the grassroot economy of each country and create entrepreneurship opportunities.

It was agreed during the Jakarta meeting that the first plenary of the FORSEAA will be held in Seychelles during 2013.  The secretary general has expressed his appreciation for this initiative and its founding desire to bring the two continents closer.

Mr Le Luong Minh, who is from Vietnam, took the post of Asean secretary general on January 1, 2013.
