Football: Charity matches-Wins for St Michel, La Passe and Côte d’Or |11 February 2013

On La Digue, La Passe beat Revengers 3-0 and at the Amitié Stadium on Praslin, Côte d’Or edged LightStars 2-1.

These matches were organised to help raise fund for victims of the recent disaster which struck the eastern region of Mahé.

Sadly the crowd did not turn out in their groves as it was only a small group which was present at Stad Linite for the Friday encounter.

The match itself was rather low key as a result with St Michel also not playing at a high tempo as they prepare for the Confederation African Football Champions League adventure next weekend.

St Michel had coach Ralph Jean-Louis back on the bench after a two-year absence as he replaced Vivian Bothe who left the job at the end of last season.

The 2012 first division champions also gave a debut to Malagasy Hassan Aly recruited from Anse Reunion and he showed glimpses of what he has to offer in the middle of the park.

In the fifth minute, Aly linked up with striker Leeroy Corallie whose header found refuge in the net, but the goal was disallowed for an offside flagged by the assistant referee.

St Michel were at it again in the 28th minute when midfielder Jean Del’Or Tsaralaza played a neat one-two after a good build-up from the back. Del’Or laid the ball to Laurence and the St Michel player of the year for 2012 rifled a low left foot shot which nestled in at the near post past goalkeeper Jerome Dingwall for a 1-0 scoreline.

St Michel enjoyed plenty of possession in the second half but they were rather too casual while The Lions grew in stature.
Both teams had chances to score in this half but failed to hit the target as St Michel ended as winners in this game which the result was not too significant but rather the cause taking centre-stage.

Seychelles Football Federation secretary general Jemmy Adela acknowledges the fact that it was a small crowd but said at least the federation had done something to help the victims.

The Lions manager Davis Khan was rather disappointed with the turn-out though he was happy that each of his players had made an individual contribution before the kick-off.

As for St Michel manager Andrew Jean-Louis, he felt that the poor turn-out was a result of the weather as well as the opponents, but nonetheless was happy they had contributed by staging this match to help the disaster victims.

On La Digue, La Passe beat Revengers 3-0 after getting goals from Fagnorena, Kenny Nibourette, and Marcus François.

Dean Suzette and Rennick Esther scored a goal apiece as Côte d’Or edged LightStars in a Praslin derby at the Amitié Stadium.
Sergio Barra scored LightStars’ consolation goal with a free-kick.
