SCAA donation to help alleviate suffering of disaster victims |13 February 2013

The donation included a set of provisions (tea, milk, juices, sugar, pasta and canned nutrition such as beef and tuna) and a set of linens (bed sheets, pillow cases, pillows and towels).

A family from each of the four communities in the vicinity of the airport which included Cascade, Anse Aux Pins, Au Cap and Pointe Larue accepted the donations on behalf of four hundred families affected. They were accompanied by their district administrators and members of the National Assembly.

A cheque for R500,000 was also presented to the chairperson of the National Disaster Fund Committee, Lekha Nair, at the ceremony which was held at the SCAA clubhouse at Pointe Larue.

SCAA's contribution has amounted to a sum of R1 million.
“At the SCAA we put Seychelles and its people first; it’s one of our core values, and we are today practicing what we preach by assisting the children and families with basic needs,” says SCAA chief executive Gilbert Faure, who is also a resident of Anse aux Pins.

Before the presentation and donation, two other companies under the Ministry of Home Affairs and Transport -- Air Seychelles and the Seychelles Ports Port Authority (SPA) -- made a donation of R500,000 each to the National Disaster Relief Fund.

Mrs Nair thanked all three organisations for their generosity and contribution to the fund.
The SCAA has been assisting the communities since disaster struck.

Airport Fire Service officers helped clean up schools.  Furthermore SCAA is currently providing drinking water to children of the Anse Aux Pins school. Additional assistance is also being considered for other schools in the community.
