This is why the recent tragic incident is particularly shocking and worrying, happening in that open channel between Mahé and the inner islands at a time at night when few boats ply.

This leads me to asking this question: Was there a beacon of light on each of the boats that collided? If not, this should henceforth be enforced by the law under maritime safety precaution.

Sadly, this most unfortunate fatal accident has cast a shadow on an otherwise very successful carnival for which the organisers should be thanked and congratulated.
