The new service, which involves dental implants that are mounted onto posts and are inserted into the jaw through surgery, will be carried out by visiting renowned implantologists, Dr Ganapathy and Dr Mohan from the Denta Vista hospital in Chennai, India
Dr Mohan is also the president of Implantology Society of India.

Both specialists are also experts in single sitting root canal treatment and laser dental surgery.

The service is part of a tie between the hospital and Dr Murthy’s dental clinic situated on the first floor of the Vasudeen Complex, Lodge Street.
Implants are particularly useful when removable dentures can’t be used and are not visible from the outside.

To have an implant, patients need to have healthy gums and enough jawbone to take the posts and support the replacement tooth.

The process begins with a hole that is drilled into the jawbone, before a metal post is fixed as a mount for the replacement teeth, which might be single or in a group or also as a bridge attached to neighbouring natural teeth.

The entire procedure is usually done under a local anesthetic.
The dental implant procedure is a team effort between the patient and the dentist and it’s up to you and your dentist to determine where and how the patient’s implant should be placed. The dentist will also carry out a treatment depending on the patient’s specific condition and the type of implant required.
One implant and a crown can replace a single tooth, while implant-supported bridges can replace several missing teeth.

For somebody who is missing all his or her teeth, an implant-supported full bridge or full denture can be used to replace them.

The most important factor in the success of an implant is the quantity and quality of the bone where the implant is to be placed. The upper back jaw has traditionally been one of the most difficult areas to successfully place dental implants due to insufficient bone quantity and quality and the close proximity to the sinus. Sinus augmentation can help correct this problem by raising the sinus floor and developing bone for the placement of dental implants.

In case of deformities in the upper or lower jaw which can leave inadequate bone in which to place dental implants, the gum is lifted away from the ridge to expose the bony defect.  The defect is then filled with bone or bone substitute to build up the ridge. Ridge modification has been shown to greatly improve appearance and increase the chances for successful implants that can last for many years.

A dental implant is like the original teeth and will require the same care. In order to keep them clean and plaque-free like the normal teeth, implants require regular brushing and flossing.
