Seychelles’ eldest citizen Nancy Marie turns 104 |23 February 2013

She has a son, Guy Marie who is a veteran guitarist, and a daughter Anne Marie who is a housewife.

Ms Marie, who was born on Praslin, has lived for the past 26 years at Majoie in the English River district.

She also has five grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren, most of whom turned up at the English River community centre for her birthday party, where they were joined by the Minister for Social Affairs, Community Development and Sports Vincent Meriton.

Also present were the district administrator Audrey Sanders, who, with members of the English River senior citizens club, organised the gathering complete with a large birthday cake.

Mr Meriton congratulated Ms Marie on her birthday. He said all birthdays are usually joyous occasions. However, in the case of Ms Nancy Marie who is 104 – doubled his own age of 52 – that is really very special.

“Can I imagine myself in her place in another 52 years?” Minister Meriton asked with a touch of humour. 
The minister also presented Ms Marie with a medal commemorating her as the republic’s eldest citizen for 2013.

She also received a gift hamper from President James Michel presented to her by district administrator Sanders.
