Two jailed after admitting they burned house |26 February 2013

Maria was represented by Nichol Gabriel and Bareau by Joel Camille while Benjamin Vipin prosecuted in the case.
The two changed their plea and admitted burning the house amid claims they were friends of Mr Delorie.

Nation learned no details of the case needed to be given since the accused pleaded guilty “saving the court’s time”, probably partly explaining why the sentences for the crime – which carries a life in prison maximum sentence – were relatively light.

Court officials also told Nation that there is no precedence of harsh sentences for arson leading to the trend being maintained.
Mr Vipin told Nation it seemed Maria used to work for Mr Delorie.

He however stressed no details about the case came up when the accused pleaded guilty.
