Better comfort for cancer patients

The donation comes from the Soroptimist International Club of Seychelles, and the chairs – worth R7000 each – were officially handed over on Monday afternoon at the oncology unit.

Present for the event were the Minister for Health Mitcy Larue, principal secretary Veronique Laporte and other senior health officials. Also present were the president-elect of the Soroptimist Club Cecile Hodoul and other members of the organisation.

In receiving the donation Ms Laporte thanked the Soroptimist Club, saying the chairs are very comfortable and will go a long way in ensuring the comfort of patients coming to follow treatment at the unit.

“The oncology unit is where cancer patients come to follow treatment, and this donation is one of the initiatives that we took up to try to ensure the comfort of the patients who come here to follow treatment and while taking their medicines,” she said.

Ms Hodoul said last year they paid for nurses from the hospital to follow training in Mauritius and the donation of the chairs is just part of their ongoing collaboration with the Ministry of Health.

“Our club looks after women and children, and we started with the Ministry of Health in providing mammograms for women. And in doing that, Ms Laporte told us that they needed the chairs for the oncology unit, and we followed through in providing them to the ministry,” she said.
