Seychellois Adeline and Surman were invited by Shihan Sorab Mowlabucus (8th dan Ju-Jitsu, AJJIF master instructor, president of the International Ju-Jitsu Academy, and AJJIF secretary for the Indian Ocean) to take part in the seminar organised by the All Japanese Ju-Jitsu Academy of Mauritius and which was sanctioned by the All Japan Ju-Jitsu International Federation.

AJJIF president, grandmaster (O-Sensei) Alexey Kunin (10th dan red belt Ju-Jitsu) was present and he was impressed by the performance of the two Seychellois during a demonstration.
Adeline said this was a good opportunity to help promote and develop further the art of Ju-Jitsu in Seychelles with the support of Sensei Philip Philoé.

“We thank him (Sensei Philoé) for the support he has given to us and for presenting us with the opportunity to take part in the seminar and meet Grandmaster Alexey Kunin,” said Adeline and Surman.

While in Mauritius, Adeline and Surman received their official certificates to confirm them as Shodan (1st dan black belt). They were both promoted on Saturday January 19, 2013 by Shihan Sorab Mowlabucus during the exchange demonstration and competition session organised by the local Ju-Jitsu, Sambo and Wrestling Federation.
Jude Raoul was also promoted to 1st dan, while Lisa Abel was awarded her black belt on the same day.

According to Sensei Philoé, fighters who have reached the level of 1st dan black belt can now run their own classes.
