Ifad President on first official visit to Seychelles |05 March 2013
During his working visit, Mr Nwanze will call on President James Michel at State House as well as on other ministers.
He will also visit various sites where a new Ifad supported project will be implemented in the country.
The government of Seychelles, through the Ministry of Natural Resources and Industry, has been working closely with the Ifad to design this project which will be submitted to the fund’s executive board for approval in April this year.
Mr Nwanze will also discuss various issues relating to agriculture such as climate change and employment opportunities for the youth in the agricultural sectors.
While in Seychelles, the President of Ifad will be accompanied by Perin St. Ange, regional director of the Division for Eastern and Southern Africa and David Paqui, events officer, media relations and external communications of the communications division from Ifad.
The Ifad works with poor rural people to enable them to grow and sell more food, increase their incomes and determine the direction of their own lives.
Since 1978, Ifad has invested about US $14.8 billion in grants and low-interest loans to developing countries through projects empowering over 400 million people to break out of poverty, thereby helping to create vibrant rural communities.
Ifad is an international financial institution and a specialised UN agency based in Rome – the United Nations’ food and agriculture hub. It is a unique partnership of 172 members from the Organisation of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (Opec), other developing countries and the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD).
