Death of President Hugo Chavez-Seychelles extends condolences to Venezuela |07 March 2013

On behalf of the people and government of Seychelles, President Michel expressed his solidarity with the family of President Chavez and the Venezuelan people and spoke of the President’s lasting memory:

“The late President will be remembered for his utmost dedication to the concerns of his country and will continue to guide and inspire present and future generations in Venezuela and beyond.”
In the letter addressed to the executive Vice-President, Nicolas Maduro Moros, President Michel expressed the country’s commitment to the ongoing friendly relations between the two nations.

Chavez, the symbol of Latin American socialism, succumbed to a respiratory infection on Tuesday evening, 21 months after he first revealed he had a tumour.

He will be given a state funeral in Caracas on Friday, likely to be attended by millions of supporters and leftwing leaders from across the globe who have been inspired by Chavez's doctrine of "Bolivarian 21st-century socialism".

Mr Chavez, who was operated in Cuba in December, returned to Venezuela on February 18 at his own request.
