PUC calls tenders for new water and sanitation project |07 March 2013

This concerns the renewal and expansion of the water supply system in the three main islands of Mahé, Praslin and La Digue to cover the current and projected water deficits.

It will also upgrade the existing sewerage system on Mahé and the creation of new sanitation facilities on La Digue to reduce the risk of contamination of the groundwater sources used for the production of potable water.

It also involves the implementation of water demand and resource management programmes, including environmental and natural disaster risk management.

The Seychelles government has received funding from the European Investment Bank (EIB), the European Union, the French Development Agency, the African Water Facility and other funding agencies for the project being implemented by PUC.

The cost of implementing ‘Project Neptune’ is estimated to be worth about 55 million euros.
The design and implementation of a Non-Revenue Water (NRW) reduction programme is one of the key components identified.

A PUC spokesman told Nation that the quantity of water is estimated at 40% lost through leakage, pilferage and other ways.

It will involve the design of NRW reduction programme that reduces from both physical (real) and commercial (apparent) water losses to improve long-term sustainability of water on Mahé.
An advert, carried out by Nation states the selection criteria and terms and conditions by which all bidders must abide.  
Applications must be received not later than March 22, 2013.

It is also stated that the provisional commencement of the contract shall be July 1, 2013. The duration of the assignment shall be two years.
Sub-contracting is allowed and on the basis of applications received, between four and six candidates will be invited to submit detailed tenders for this contract.
