Disaster relief fund reaches R40m mark |11 March 2013

Last week’s donations, totalling R1.3 million, were presented to the fund’s chairperson Lekha Nair during a short ceremony at State House.

Barclays Bank Seychelles gave a sum of R1 million, followed by Bank of Baroda with R250,000 while the Seychelles Children’s Foundation handed over R50,000.

Managing director of Barclays Bank Rakesh Jha thanked the fund for giving the bank the chance to re-affirm its commitment to help those who are in need.

Mr Jha is calling on its customers who have been affected by the recent disasters to come to the bank so that they can discuss their loan repayment.
Baroda’s chief executive L. F. M. Shahdeo said the bank is concerned with the development of the country.

Children’s ambassador Rutha Laporte said the donation is to help the children in districts affected.

Mrs Nair thanked all those who have contributed towards the fund, adding that some of the money raised has already been disbursed to the Red Cross Society of Seychelles and farmers.
Families in the most affected districts have also been receiving money from the National Disaster Relief Fund.

She added that it is touching to see young people giving a helping hand in times of need.

Mrs Nair said all the funds are being put to good use and thanked all who have made a contribution.
