SBS donates stationery to disaster-hit school |15 March 2013

The stationery, which was handed to the children by Amy Quatre, chief executive of the Seychelles Bureau of Standards (SBS), was received with great enthusiasm by the children present at the ceremony.

In its efforts to adopt ISO 26000 in Seychelles, which is a reference on how organisations should support the communities within which they operate, the SBS is thus very conscious of their social responsibility towards the community, said Mrs Quatre.

“We believe this donation will help the children to do better in their exams and help them to do their homework,” she said.

Mrs Quatre added that the children of Au Cap primary had been traumatised by the damage done to the school and their homes and that the SBS was glad to be able to nurture them and work with them to get them back on track with their education.

“We are very happy to receive this donation,” said Fatima Agathine, head teacher of Au Cap primary. “Since the flooding, water entered into the classrooms and many books got wet and damaged.
 
“This is the third donation we have received since the disaster, and we are very thankful to the Bureau of Standards. We believe this will motivate the children further and boost their morale.”

Mrs Agathine was happy to report that the school is getting back to normal after the disaster, and after meeting parents and gaining support from partners – both in the private sector and government – things were starting to move along as usual.

“I’m happy at the reaction of the children,” said Mrs Quatre. “I was not expecting such enthusiasm. They are very happy that we came to give them this stationery.”
