Airtel’s internet service back on track |25 March 2013

This follows technical problems which were identified last Friday on the principal fibre route from Tanzania onwards. The outage has been confirmed as being due to multiple sub-sea cable cuts around 19km from the Abu Talat cable station in Egypt going towards Libya.

Airtel has said it is making sure that its traffic from Seychelles on SEAS will now have more than two different cable systems from Dar Es Salaam, Tanzania, on which traffic can be routed on.

In such circumstances, in the event of failure or interruption, traffic can still be routed through another cable system.

Airtel’s country manager Vikram Sinha has commented on the development saying: “We are continuously building capabilities for ensuring the delivery of best in class service to our customers and getting additional back-up is a step towards that.”
