The Ministry of Social Affairs, Community Development and Sports (MSACD) plans to reach them at national and district levels in a joint effort with the Ministry of Health (MoH).

Yvana Thérésine of Drug and Alcohol Council of the MSACDS said this yesterday as a group of pregnant women was advised on the likely difficulties their babies could face with their siblings, for example rivalry.

“The Ministry of Health offers many services so what we are doing by running these parenting sessions is complementing what the MoH is doing,” she told Nation.

“We are not duplicating what they are doing but working in partnership with the ministry.”

She said since parents are getting the new knowledge in groups the cluster is serving as a support team.
“Our aim is to better equip the parents who have had children before and the new ones.

She said the trainers come from a wide background base and includes retired teachers who are offering their expertise.
Among the issues being covered is prevention of substance abuse among children.

Ms Thérésine said pregnant mothers all over the country will be given three sessions similar to the one the team ran at the Sheikh Khalifa training centre yesterday.
