Moroccan ambassador meets new honorary consul |10 April 2013

At an event in honour of both the new consul and the Moroccan ambassador, which was attended by various ministers, judges, high commissioners, honorary consuls and other dignitaries, Mr Darad presented the visiting ambassador a gift on behalf of former President James Mancham.

Later on, Mr Darad also presented the ambassador with a coco-de-mer as a memento of his visit to Seychelles.

During the ambassador’s visit to the country, he also met Vice-President Danny Faure, Speaker of the National Assembly Dr Patrick Herminie, as well as several ministers.

In his meeting with the Speaker of the National Assembly, Dr Patrick Herminie, the matter regarding cooperation between the two parliaments and the exchange of cultural heritage was discussed.

Dr Herminie readily agreed to visit Morocco and study in more details about the parliamentary system there to ease strengthening of relations between the two countries.
Delegations from Morocco will also be subsequently visiting Seychelles to study and understand more about Seychelles’ parliamentary system.
Ambassador Amar also committed up to 50 scholarships for A-Level and secondary students to the Minister for Education.

During his meeting with Chief of Defence Forces, Brigadier Leopold Payet, the ambassador outlined the long history of cooperation between the two countries’ defence forces and said that if any help for specialised training for the security of dignitaries was needed, it could be provided by the kingdom.

A proposal was set forth during the ambassador’s meeting with the Minister for Foreign Affairs, Jean-Paul Adam, to waive visa requirements for easy access between both countries.

It was also proposed to enter into an agreement between both Air Seychelles and Royal Air Morocco to connect Morocco directly with Seychelles and Mauritius for trade and tourism purposes.

It was discussed and agreed with the Minister for Tourism and Culture, Alain St Ange, that Morocco will impart specialised training, also on a scholarship basis, for the students of the Seychelles Tourism Academy.
 
Minister St Ange mentioned that he would like to hold trade fairs in Morocco and invited the kingdom to take part in the Carnaval International de Victoria in 2014 by sending a cultural troupe.
