Table tennis: April challenge competition-Sultan, Bristol, Lablache, Khattab, Carped, Hoareau victorious |17 April 2013

In the men’s division one final, Sultan was up against Nicholas Esther and he won the first set easily 11-5 and kept the momentum in the second to win 11-8 before Esther showed signs of a fightback by winning the third 7-11. The game was soon put to bed though as Sultan won the last two sets 11-8 and 11-6 to finish as 4-1 winner. Mick Créa finished in third place

Christy Bristol took the women’s first division title on the same set score (4-1) against Laura Sinon, while Angelique Volcy settled for third place. Bristol took the first set 11-9 before Sinon tied it by winning the second 6-11. But Bristol proved to be too strong and won the next three sets 11-6, 11-9 and 11-4.

The women’s division one was played on a round-robin league before the top two made it to the final. Angelique Volcy was ranked third.

The female division two final was a hardly fought one between Zahira Khattab and Lana Robert with neither girl willing to accept defeat. Khattab looked set for victory as she easily took the first two sets 11-5 and 11-7, but Robert staged a great comeback to win the third set 11-7 and the fourth 14-12 to tie the game and force a decisive fifth.

Khattab regained her composure and won the decider 11-7 to take the win on a 3-2 set score. Sheryn Jeannevol missed out on the final to finish third.
Mario Lablache had an easier time despite losing the first set against Dorian Banane in the boys’ division two final.

Banane got off to a good start by winning the first set and this seemed to spur Lablache on as he took control of the next three sets to win the match 3-1 (6-11, 11-5, 11-5, 11-4). Darius Thomas took third position.

In the boys’ division three, Jovani Carped beat Hugo Eichler 3-1. Carped won a closely fought first set 14-12 before Eichler levelled matters with a 10-12 second set win. Carped made sure of the win by the claiming the third and fourth sets on the same 11-5 score to win the title. Dylan Rose finished third.

The girls’ division three was played on a league basis, and Kim Hoareau was victorious after winning all her three matches. Nisha Belmont was second with two wins and a loss, followed by Joelene Mondon who managed one win and two losses. Jamila Antat ended in fourth place with no wins.
