Dornier Flight team cleans up Anse Royale beach |29 April 2013

Twenty-five men and seven officers took part in the one hour (7am to 8am) clean-up activity along the 1.5 km stretch of beach and adjoining shore areas.

A spokesperson for the team said the event is an ‘’endeavour to create awareness among the local population about the importance of having a clean environment”.
“It is a small gesture towards protecting the environment for a safe future for our children,” he said.

The Seychelles Dornier Flight team has thanked Mason’s Travel for its generous support and for sponsoring the activity.
World Environment Day is celebrated on June 5 every year to raise global awareness of the need to take positive environmental actions.

As a prelude to this social obligation, the Seychelles Dornier Flight marched forward to flag off coastal clean-up as deemed most appropriate for Seychelles.

Coastal cleanup is an important environmental activity where people from all spheres join together to take care of our fragile marine environment, show community support for our shared natural resources, learn about the impacts of marine debris and how we can prevent them.

India is a country of wide biodiversity, with a tradition of rich cultural heritage and tradition coupled with an immense sense of social responsibility. The Indian Navy on its part has always played a leading role to promote an understanding that communities are pivotal to changing attitudes towards environmental issues.

The Indian Navy always takes part both on home soil and abroad in beach clean-ups, tree planting, recycling and clean-up campaigns, film festivals, community events in general, as well as organises essays and poster competitions in schools.

This coastal clean-up at Anse Royale by the officers and men of the Seychelles Dornier Flight is an overall step towards investing back in the environment and creating awareness among the local communities.
