This follows the signing of agreements yesterday between the US ambassador to Seychelles Shari Villarosa and representatives of the four organisations.

Nature Seychelles, Association for People with Hearing Impairment (APHI), Alliance of Solidarity for the Family (ASFF) and Centre d’Accueil de la Rosière (Car) are the beneficiaries of the grants.
Witnessing the signing ceremony at the Liaison Unit for Non-Governmental Organisation (Lungos) office at Orion Mall was its chairperson Marie-Nella Azemia.

Ms Villarosa said non-governmental organisations and community groups play an important role in addressing the needs of their communities.
“We welcome more project proposals to address the other important community needs in Seychelles,” she said.

Mrs Azemia thanked the US embassy for making available funds for local non-governmental organisations to tap into and commended these bodies for their projects.

On behalf of all the beneficiaries, Gerald Julie from Car thanked the US embassy for the grants which he said will be put to good use and will help to make a difference in the lives of those they will touch.

The projects are the setting up a small enterprise for deaf people on La Digue by the APHI, the setting up a women’s rehabilitation centre by Car, while Nature Seychelles is planning to publish a book on ‘Grow and Eat’ to show people what they can do to support themselves from their own garden and to live healthier. The ASFF project will focus on improving an HIV and counselling facility.
A total of US $18,791 have been allocated to fund the four projects.
