New beds and cots for pediatric ward |08 May 2013

The donation of beds and cots is the result of a partnership between the Diplomatic Spouse Association (DSA) and Le Méridien Fisherman’s Cove Hotel.

Kimi Darlong, the chairperson of the DSA, in the presence of other members of the association and Le Méridien Fisherman’s Cove general manager Mathieu de Tonnac yesterday handed the donation to Health Minister Mitcy Larue in a short ceremony at the Seychelles Hospital.

This was in the presence of nurses, pediatricians and other members of staff.
Addressing Minister Larue and all those present Mrs Darlong said the donation forms part of the DSA’s charity activities.

“I have no doubt many children will benefit from this donation in the days to come and it is always a great pleasure for the DSA to do a noble gesture,” said Mrs Darlong.
She expressed her gratitude to Mr de Tonnac who made the donation possible.

Mrs Darlong said it was Mr de Tonnac who chose the DSA as a partner in support of such an initiative and host a dinner for the DSA at his hotel last year to raise funds for the project.
“We are indeed looking forward to the forthcoming DSA dinner being hosted once again by the hotel next month the proceeds of which will all be donated for the cause of children of Seychelles,” said Mrs Darlong.  

Mrs Larue expressed her deep and sincere gratitude to the DSA for “including the Ministry of Health in its programme of assistance”.
“The government is committed to provide the highest level of health care to its citizens and in this regard we are always ready to partner with everyone to ensure that this goal is reached,” added the minister.

She further noted that “this is needed as the changing trend in disease pattern and high demands of health care invariably adds to the challenges we face in delivering the standard of care we need to keep. We are therefore very appreciative of this gift from the DSA which will be put to very good use.
Mr de Tonnac said it is always a great honour to be part of such noble gestures.

“I am very delighted to announce that this partnership with the DSA will continue and very soon there will be another event of which we will make sure that the children and the health ministry will benefit”, he said thanking the ministry for giving them the chance to give a helping hand.

Jeannine Nourrice, nurse manager of the pediatric ward, said the new beds will replace used ones and will also meet the ward’s needs when it exceeds its capacity of 26 which has often been the case  in the past few months.
