World Red Cross Day – May 8-Red Cross rewards outgoing members, volunteers and partners |09 May 2013

This was during a special ceremony organised at the School of Education yesterday to mark the 150th anniversary of the International Committee of the Red Cross and the World Red Cross day celebrated on May 8.

Attending the ceremony were Designated Minister Vincent Meriton, Minister for Health Mitcy Larue, Minister for Education Macsuzy Mondon, honorary president of the RCSS Chrystold Chetty, president of the RCSS Barbara Carolus-Andre, members, volunteers and partners of the RCSS.

Rewards were also given to Davis Charles, Rudy Flore and Raymond Dubel - three outstanding volunteers who devoted themselves tirelessly during the disasters which occurred late in January this year.

Colette Servina, who has been with the RCSS for the past 18 years, received the Honorary President Award, while the award for the extraordinary member went to Kisnan Tamatave, the founder of the Praslin branch.

Speaking at the event, Mrs Larue said the government recognises the role the RCSS plays in the society and re-affirmed its continued support to the RCSS.
Mrs Larue added that the RCSS is a useful partner to the Ministry of Health and this was well demonstrated during the recent disaster.

In her address, Mrs Carolus-Andre said the RCSS has the capacity to reach out but the extent of its programmes and services are dependent on partner contribution and availability of funds.
She thanked all those who have trusted and partnered with the RCSS in humanitarian actions for reaching to people in need.

Mrs Carolus-Andre also expressed her gratitude to the government for the encouragement, support and recognition given to the RCSS.

During the ceremony, the organisation also launched its website www.seychellesredcross.sc whereby members of the public can learn more about the work done by the RCSS.

The ceremony was also graced by the presence of well-known local artists Jean-Marc Volcy and Jean Ally who entertained the audience with their performances, and Annia Marengo, a RCSS youth, who sang the Power of Humanity.
