Aids candle light memorial this Sunday

The event, which will this year be held under the theme ‘In Solidarity’, will start with a procession at 5pm.

There will be Seychelles Public Transports Corporation (SPTC) buses to bring those who will be taking part in the procession back to Victoria.

The international Aids candle light memorial is an initiative of the global network of people living with HIV and is held every third week of May.

It is led by a coalition of some 1,200 community organisations in 115 countries, including Seychelles through Haso (HIV Aids Support Organisation). It is Haso who is organising the march in collaboration with other civil society organisations and government bodies.

This year is the 30th march after the first held in 1983. It is a grassroot mobilisation effort aimed at not only remembering people who have died of Aids but also stamping out HIV by raising awareness and advocating effective policies to combat it.
