Air Seychelles offers improved domestic cargo services for clients |17 May 2013

As from this Monday, clients wanting to send cargo from Praslin to Mahe and vice-versa can now go to the cargo terminal of the airport, for shipment tender and pick up, which has its own dedicated counter provided there.

The rates have been reduced by 40% to R36 per kilo, with the minimum consignment being R120 exclusive of Value added tax (Vat).

A communiqué from Air Seychelles said operations at Praslin airport will remain unchanged at the passenger check-in counter with a dedicated counter used for shipment tender and retrieval.
“Customers can choose the desired flight, although subject to space availability and the shipment tender should be done 60 minutes before the scheduled time of departure, and shipment retrieval is 30 minutes after the actual time of flight arrival” said the communiqué.

There are more than 20 departures a day, and there are specific flights available for larger shipments although clients will need to call the company for details.

To ensure that they give a personal company-to-client touch to the new service, customers will be called and reminded of shipment pick up, if not done within 30 minutes after flight arrival.
In terms of how the new service works, clients will need to select one of the 20 flights that they want their shipment to move on, and they must arrive at the cargo terminal on Mahe or passenger terminal on Praslin at least one hour before the scheduled departure time of the desired flight.

Shipper and consignee mobile numbers will be marked on the air waybills to facilitate communications should an unplanned event occurs. And once at its end destination, shipments will be made available for pick up within 60 minutes of actual flight arrival time, with consignees called for pick up 30 minutes after actual flight arrival.

The communiqué said customers will benefit tremendously from the 40% rate reduction, will have dedicated agents to serve them, and clients will be able to track shipments on the Air Seychelles website in real time.

Air Seychelles says the mode of payment is available on a prepaid basis only, with cash, credit cards, or shipments on account (credit) acceptable, and special cargoes such as dangerous goods, regulated lithium ion batteries, gold and bullion are not accepted for transportation.
