Seychelles extends condolences to Oklahoma victims |23 May 2013

In a letter sent to President Barack Obama, President Michel said that he was deeply saddened by the loss of so many lives, many of which were young children, and the devastation that was caused.

“In the wake of this tragedy, the government and people of Seychelles join me in extending our heartfelt condolences. Our thoughts and prayers are with the families of the victims during this most difficult time,” said President Michel.

The two miles wide tornado destroyed the town of Moore, a community of 41,000 people 10 miles south of the city in Oklahoma.

At least 24 people, including nine children, were killed in the mammoth tornado, the state medical examiner's office said.

Among the buildings wrecked by the nearly 200-mph winds was Plaza Towers Elementary school, which was turned to rubble. Seven students were found dead in the debris there.
