Cambridge rewards outstanding performers |25 May 2013

The students received their certificates and tokens in a ceremony organised yesterday by the Centre for Curriculum, Assessment and Teacher Support (CCATS) of the Ministry of Education.

Present at the event held at the School of Education were principal secretary for education Merida Delcy, director general for schools Odile Octave, officials from the Ministry of Education, representative from Cambridge International Examinations Dr John Guy, teachers and parents.

The centre’s principal education officer Odile De Comarmond said it is an honour for a small country to be showing to the world what its students can achieve.

She urged the students to keep their achievements as a source of motivation not only for themselves but as an inspiration to other students.

“Let lifelong learning be your motto as you move up the ladder of success for yourself, your family and your country,” she said.

Dr Guy also congratulated the awardees and shared a few words of encouragement with them.

He said the event is not only to celebrate the achievements of the students but also great potentials of the future.

The award for best across four ‘A’ levels went to Kavinya Karunakaran while Samuel Mancienne-Pool won the award as the best performer across seven Cambridge International General Certificate of Secondary Education (IGSCE) subjects.

Top in the world award for foreign language French in IGCSE went to Anastasia Etienne from the Independent School, ranked 6th.

Other awards presented were the high achievement award for the October and November 2011 Cambridge IGCSE, AS level and ‘A’ level subjects.

The high achievement award for Physics, Biology and Chemistry at ‘A’ level went to Kavinya Karunakaran.

Others who excelled at ‘A’ level were Virginie Quatre for Sociology, Franca Sicobo for Economics and Jiuyi Zhang for Chinese.
Arlette Hoaureau and Sa’Id Kusai Suma clinched the award at AS level for English language.

At IGCSE level, Edley Carola won the high achievement award for Biology, Samuel Mancienne-Pool for Chemistry and Victoria Alis for Literature in English.

The next awards went to students who are top in Seychelles for the 2012 Cambridge IGSCEs, AS and ‘A’ levels.

In the IGCSE category the outstanding performers are – Abirami Pugazhendi for Art and Design, first language English, Geography, and Mathematics; Emmy Alcindor for Coordinated Sciences, Chirelle Lau Tee for English as a second language, Aisha Joubert for first language English, Shantana Barbe for history, Richard Mussard for Information and Communication Technology and Samuel Mancienne-Pool for Physics.

Top performers in Seychelles at AS level are Arlette Houareau for Literature in English and Xiaoying Tan for Mathematics.

At ‘A’ level Dominique Clara Ernesta was the best for Business Studies, Franca Sicobo for Literature in English and Kavinya Karunakaran for Mathematics.
