Seychelles wins best honeymoon destination award at Shangai fair

The award

As one of the leading travel expos in China, WTF is a vibrant annual event showcasing a diverse range of destinations and industry sectors.

The fair was held in Shanghai's Exhibition Centre and Seychelles was showcased in a 18 sqm stand, against a backdrop of Fregate Island's Anse Victorin with its white sandy beach, turquoise blue ocean and giant granite boulders, a setting unique to Seychelles.

This four-day event, held under the theme ‘World tourism carnival’, was meant to be a taste of paradise for visitors envisaging an experience of the world's wonders. As such, it constituted a unique opportunity for tourism organisations and operators to launch new brands or products.

The Seychelles delegation was headed by the manager of the Seychelles Tourism Board (STB) in China, Jean Luc Lai-Lam, and also comprised graphic designer Eileen Hoareau and the marketing executive in Shanghai, Ethan Chan.

“Increased promotional activities and partnership with the local Chinese trade in the market over  the last two years keeps showing positive signs of visibility and interest for Seychelles as one of the newest destinations for the world's growing outbound markets,” said Mr Lai Lam.

“This could be seen throughout the fair with many new agents marketing Seychelles,£ he added. This could also be tied to the opening of thrice weekly air links with Hong Kong by Air Seychelles.

Commenting on the WTF, STB's chief executive Elsia Grandcourt said: “Our efforts have not gone unnoticed over the years, with Seychelles being awarded  the best honeymoon tour destination for 2013.”
The STB team was joined by representatives of 7° South and Mason’s Travel.
