St Louis open chess competition-Weligepola, Kumar and Eulentin winners

The competition attracted 36 chesslers and was played on a five-round Swiss System game in the spirit of fair-play.

There were some very interesting duels, where it remained tight until the very end. Sachith Weligepola finished in first place on 4.5 points after winning four games and earning a draw against Dericka Figaro, who had to settle for second place with the same number of points.

In the boys’ under 12 category, it was Ajah Kumar who finished first after amassing 3.5 points. Out of his five games, Kumar won three, drew one and lost one.

For the girls’ under 12 division, Jessee Eulentin finished in first place with 3 points after three wins and two losses.

The winners each received a trophy, and two other players – Liza Adeline and Aswin Sathiyamoorthy – were awarded trophies as the two most promising players.
