No birds’ eggs harvesting on Desnoeuf this year

Birds’ eggs, considered a delicacy among the population, will not be available this year

This is in line with the company’s conservation policy for the sooty tern population that annually migrates to the island during the breeding season.

In the past, the IDC has been harvesting sooty tern eggs from Desnoeuf every two years in order to ensure sustainable management of the sea-bird population that breeds on the island from May to September.

This management practice is in addition to the no-take zone that the IDC has established on at least one-third of Desnoeuf where no harvesting of birds’ eggs is done during the collection season.

The IDC adds that it will resume the harvesting of the sooty tern eggs on Desnoeuf next year.
