Students honoured to meet President

President Michel meeting the two students at State House

The President met Kavinya Karunakaran and Stephanie Cadeau last week at State House to congratulate them on their ‘A’ level results as well as encourage their future career aspirations.

Ms Karunakaran, who studied biology, chemistry, mathematics and physics, managed to achieve three A*s (90% or above) and one A (80-90%). She plans to study medicine next year, and is eagerly awaiting feedback from her university applications to find out where she will be going.

“When I told the president this, he said that my choice was a good one because the country needs doctors to improve the health of the population,” said Ms Karunakaran.

Ms Cadeau, who was the joint recipient of the School of A-Level  Studies’ (Sals) Academic Excellence award with Ms Karunakaran in April this year, also scored an impressive three As and one A*. It is her dream to study veterinary medicine specialising in wildlife, a qualification she believes will be needed in Seychelles in the near future.

She is currently working at the National Bureau of Statistics while she applies for a place at university.

“We were very honoured to meet the president,” said Ms Karunakaran. “He congratulated us, and he encouraged us to keep up with what we’ve achieved so far. He said he was proud to see that the young people of this country still care very much about their studies.”
