Karting-Bonnelame, Delcy, Rene trio win National Day sprint relay |22 June 2013

Drivers ran their own stint schedules for their driver changes which had limits to both maximum and minimum times they could do it. While some teams mastered it well, others ran into problems which led to various drive penalties.

Four teams were made up from drivers on the national team and the remaining ones comprised other karting member drivers.

With a Le Mans-type start, the teams were off with the lightweight team of Chan Decommarmond, Andrew Gabriel and Rodney Salome starting on pole. They were soon passed by the team of Peter Fred, Roland Delcy and Dane Decommarmond. The team comprising Liza, Damien and Stephan followed but the lead changed hands at every pit stop.

In the end, Redmond Bonnelame, Marc Delcy and David Rene reached the finish line ahead of the team comprising Liza, Damien and Stephan by 8 seconds. Both teams covered 78 laps.

Peter Fred, Roland Delcy and Dane Decommarmond were third across the line with 76 laps but they incurred a penalty that demoted them one place letting the team of Marvin Sophie, Rennick Bonnelame and John Simon take third with 75 laps.

Missing a teammate, Shirin Azemia and Debra Mellon had to do all the driving for the women’s team and they finished fifth with 68 laps.

The lightweight crew of Chan Decommarmond, Andrew Gabriel and Rodney Salome finished last after they took a lot of time repairing their kart, and also incurred a number of penalties in the process. They covered only 37 laps.
