Cycling-Louis wins Anthony Jean-Baptiste’s memorial race

The race started at Anse Etoile, opposite the Jean-Baptiste residence, and the cyclists pedalled to North East Point, Glacis, Beau Vallon, St Louis, Bel Air, Sans Soucis, Port Glaud, Grand Anse Boileau, Baie Lazare, Takamaka, Anse Royale, Anse Aux Pins, Pointe Larue Providence High Way and Bois de Rose Avenue. The finish line was at New Port in front of Lafarge Cement (Seychelles) previously managed by Mr Jean-Baptiste.

In fact, it was another one-two finish for Eco cycling club as Bertrand Lesperance came in second behind Louis with a 9-second deficit (2h42.59). Ahmad Arrisol of Journey cycling club finished third with a time of 2h43:00.

Eco cycling club were the best team with a total time of 8h14:52, Journey were second with 8h34:41, while the once mighty St Francis were third with 8h40:36.

The race was sponsored by Farouk Jean-Baptiste, son of Anthony Jean-Baptiste who died on November 30 last year in Mombasa, Kenya.

Mr Anthony Jean-Baptiste was the Seychelles Cycling Association chairman for 12 years, serving six two-year mandates from 1994 to 2006.
