The group of students received their airline tickets from the vice-chancellor of the university, Marina Confait, in a short ceremony at the Anse Royale campus this week.
The ceremony was also attended by the head of school of business management Shella Mohideen and the dean of the faculty of humanities Dr Justin Valentin.

Addressing the students, Dr Valentin said that the internship programme should be seen as a wonderful opportunity to gain knowledge and to see what goes on outside the Seychelles context.

“You are thus expected to use this opportunity wisely: be proactive, engage meaningfully and critically and gather as much as you can. As UniSey students, you are expected to show the best of you and set standards for those who will come after you,” he said.

According to Mrs Mohideen, the students are benefitting from a full scholarship offered by the government of Seychelles which includes all expenses for the internship.
Mrs Mohideen also explained that the course’s duration is four years instead of the normal three as it includes the licence professionnel d’hôtellerie et du tourisme.

She described the group of students as special as they are the first of UniSey to have the opportunity to study in both English and French languages.

On behalf of her fellow students, Diana Ithier was thankful to UniSey and to everyone who has helped in a way or another to make the programme successful.

She said they are honoured and privileged to have the opportunity to study in such a prestigious university and that they will do their best to bring back good results.

The University of Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne which dates back to the 13th century, is in fact one of the oldest universities in the world. With 17 departments, 23,271 students and more than 2,074 employees including 1,300 lecturers, it is the biggest French educational institution. The university is located in the culturally rich Quartier Latin of Paris and the philosophy of the Sorbonne incites its students to think freely, to construct their own judgment so that they can become responsible and inventive citizens who can promote dignity and peace culture.

Upon completion of their course next year, the students are expected to join the middle management level of the tourism industry. However, they will be attached to tourism establishments as trainee managers for a certain period before taking on formal employment.

Besides Diana Ithier, the other students who received their tickets yesterday are Vanessa Dugasse, Farrah Cedras, Ellga Esparon, Nadine Woodcock, Angelique Sinon, Corrina Andre, Annabelle Adrienne, Vanesa Labiche, Alexa Labrosse and Mario Pool.
