Karting-Leaders win in Mid-Season GP |03 July 2013

In a well-run event at the Champions Park Raceway, Roche Caïman, drivers, who had to qualify at the last event, battled it out in a pre-final of 10 laps and a final of 15 laps, which ran longer than ever before.

Podium finishers were presented with prizes at the end of the event.
Beginning with the youngest drivers in the SF6 (Cadet) class, championship leader Anil Gonthier dominated the final and took victory by a long distance ahead of second-placed Dharmil Shakida, with Maxime Trambellant close behind for third place. Terence Henderson took fourth overall. This win has stretched Gonthier’s lead in the table to eight points over second-placed Shakida.

The SF5 (Junior) class was again dominated by table leader Ryan Marianne who took advantage of starting on pole position and then stretching his lead that gave Arnold Mein no chance to catch up and had to settle for second place.

Keval Shakida took a fine third place, but he had to fight it out with Julio Chetty for most of the race. Shirin Azemia went on to finish fifth despite her kart colliding with that of Joshua Samsoodin which lost a wheel. Samsoodin had to drop out completely.
Amadave Camille raced to sixth place overall.

Marianne has a massive 27-point advantage over Arnold Mein in the championship, and consistent finishes from now on will lead him to retaining his title at the end of the year.

SF4 was once again dominated by a fast-improving Rennick Bonnelame who won the final ahead of class leader Rodney Salome, with Chan Decommarmond finishing third. Earlier in the pre-final it looked like Decommarmond was the favourite, but Bonnelame had a plan to hit the lead when it counted and that he did in the main final.

Debra Mellon took a lonely fourth place. Salome only holds a two-point lead from Decommarmond in the championship and will have to be on his toes for the rest of the season if he wants to win the title as Decommarmond and Bonnelame are serious threats.

In SF Ladies, Liza Rene-Cosgrow dominated the event, leading from start to finish. Debra Mellon, the 2012 ladies’ champion, had to fight for second place from Shirin Azemia who was third ahead of Bernadette Mein.

Rene-Cosgrow holds a 38-point lead over second-placed Mein, who in turn is just two points ahead of Mellon while Azemia trails Mellon by two points.

The SF3 class had a new winner, this was Marvin Sophie, who out-of-the-blue came alive for this event, holding top position from the start and was not challenged by anyone. Behind him the racing was fast and furious, with Dane Decommarmond fighting hard to take second position, and Damien Bonnelame third.

However, Damien Bonnelame was to fail the minimum weight check and in the end he was demoted to eighth place, leaving Peter Fred to take third. Roland Delcy drove well from last place to fourth and was in the group fighting for second. Marc Delcy, who finished fifth, still heads the table with a 12-point advantage over Fred, with Sophie taking third position just four points adrift, and Roland Delcy next just one point behind.

The SF1 race was won by David Rene who, together with Stephan Simon, suffered oiling up problems in the pre-final. Somehow, they got going a few laps later.

With Liza René-Cosgrow starting on pole it was a fight for the first corner that decided the outcome, and as Rene-Cosgrow slid wide, Rene forced himself into the gap to lead till the end. Rene-Cosgrow was second while Stephan lost time with over-heated tyres.
