Football: Fifa world rankings-Seychelles slumps one place to 200th worldwide |06 July 2013

Having not played any competitive matches in the last months, it was expected that our ranking would take a hit. However, it is hoped that the Seychelles team earn some good results in the Council of Southern Africa Football Associations (Cosafa) Cup in Lusaka, Zambia, as from next week to help the country move up the ranking which it is next updated.

With 19 points, Seychelles is above only Somalia and Djibouti on the African continent, while worldwide it is nine places from the bottom.
This is Seychelles’ lowest Fifa ranking although we should expect a rise should the team produce good performances in Zambia.

Africa’s top nation is Côte d'Ivoire (13 worldwide), followed by Ghana (24 worldwide), Mali (28 worldwide), Algeria (34 worldwide), Nigeria (35 worldwide), Burkina Faso (42 worldwide), Tunisia (47 worldwide), Cape Verde Islands (49 worldwide), South Africa (59 worldwide), Zambia (60 worldwide).

The world top-10 once again features Brazil who has moved up from 22nd to ninth in the rankings. Spain remains in first place, ahead of Germany while Colombia has climbed up to third. Argentina, Netherlands, Italy, Portugal, Croatia, Brazil and Belgium make up the remaining places from fourth to 10th respectively.

Senegal is the main climber, rising 25 places from 99th to 74th, while Central African Republic is the biggest dropper, going from 59th to 89th.
