Ministry welcomes PSE books donation

The books were presented to education principal secretary Merida Delcy by the chairperson of ICPA Seychelles, Serah Sabadin, in a short ceremony at the Care House last week.
Also present were the director general for schools Odile Octave, curriculum development officers Elva Gedeon and Jacques Koui, Lungos (Liaison unit of non-governmental organisations of Seychelles) chairperson Marie-Nella Azemia and PSE teachers.

The donation of books which treat topics such as child development, love and substance addiction forms part of the activities to celebrate International Day Against Drug Abuse. Other activities to mark the day included a workshop on gender violence for PSE teachers, a mass at the Cathedral of Immaculate Conception and an open day at the Centre d’Accueil de La Rosière.

On behalf of her ministry and the teachers, Mrs Delcy thanked the ICPA for the gesture which she said has come at the right time.

“For the past two years, we have been working very hard to address social ills in schools. The PSE teachers have a big role to play in the implementation of relevant programmes. However, we need the support of the community and other partners to provide our teachers with the knowledge and skills they need,” she said.

Mrs Sabadin said the donation is part of her organisation’s contribution in the effort to reverse the trend of domestic violence and other consequences of drugs and alcohol abuse. She added that it is also their role to bring awareness on the issue.

The titles of the books presented last week are ‘For Raising Your Child’, ‘Smart Love’ and ‘Free from Addiction’.
