They presented their action plan to President James Michel in a ceremony held at State House yesterday.

Also present at the ceremony were Designated Minister Vincent Meriton, Minister for Environment and Energy Professor Rolph Payet, Minister for Labour and Human Resource Development Idith Alexander, Vice-Chancellor of the University of Seychelles Marina Confait, Pro Vice-Chancellor Lucie Athanasius and members of the second cohort of the SYLP.

‘Inspiring leadership through community service’ is the motto the plan which is aimed at developing new strategies, activities and techniques that respond to the country’s challenges, in line with the goals of the SYLP.

The plan, which is a voluntary programme involving activities in different fields and which will target mainly children and young people, will include tree-planting, fund-raising to help in the reconstruction of the Mont Royal rehabilitation centre, family fun days during the Christmas and New Year period and visits to the Military Academy aimed at educating the youths on why Seychelles needs a military force.

“The SYLP is an innovative way to develop leadership in young people. I would like to congratulate the 2nd cohort for the initiative they have taken. It’s a noble gesture after benefiting from this programme that has permitted them to develop their talents and gain capacities. They have come to me and presented me with an action plan that show their engagement to work for and give back to society what they have learnt and gained from the programme,” President Michel said in an interview after the ceremony.

He said he wished to see a strong association of all the cohorts together with lots of engagement that will represent a force of leadership in our society that will bring our society to the next level of its development.

“My vision is to empower our youth and give them more capacity to develop so that our country keeps moving forward on a level that will benefit our society,” President Michel said.
