Cascade school embraces Care’s Rainbow project |20 July 2013

In the same rationale three years ago Care launched a comprehensive primary school-based programme named Rainbow Project to alter the behavioural effects of socio-psychological and emotional problems of children at the grassroots level. The programme touches three fundamental groups: the children themselves, parents and teachers.

Children who are enrolled in the Rainbow project programme take part in one-on-one therapeutic sessions; holiday camps; social, communication and living skills trainings; as well as social activities like hikes, sports and games.

This year Care is jointly working with Cascade school and the entire Cascade community to reinforce the child’s learning environment. It should be noted that Cascade school has got a new façade after the renovation of the school and the installation of new infrastructure like children playground. Therefore, the Rainbow Project team in collaboration with teachers and parents have seized the opportunity to make sure that all children are inclusively oriented towards positive growth and academic success and that certain mentality and behaviours should not be the hurdles to block the appropriate growth and the success of a child. There are in total forty children enrolled in the programme.

So far a wide variety of activities, such as hike, educational visits, sports, skills building and craft have been organised for the children, all with the aim of aiding the children learn to socialise and develop problem solving skills, resiliency, positive character, among other virtues and values.

Cascade school is not the only school that is benefiting from the Rainbow Project. The project was launched at the La Retraite and Mont Fleuri primary schools where the Rainbow Committee teachers are sustaining the programme. Rainbow team is also assisting Plaisance school to inculcate positive characters and values in some pupils.
