Seychelles Medical and Dental Council gets new chairman |27 November 2013

Dr Bernard Valentin, currently working as a health management consultant with the Ministry of Health, has been elected the new chairman of the Seychelles Medical and Dental Council (SMDC).
His election took place on Friday November 22, 2013 at the first meeting of the new governing board of the SMDC.

The SMDC exists to register and licence medical practitioners and dentists in Seychelles, to oversee their professional conduct and competence and to ensure and facilitate their continuous medical education and professional development, in the interest of the public.

Addressing the members of the SMDC after his election, Dr Valentin thanked the outgoing leadership of the council for their hard work during the past two years.

He has vowed to build on the success of the previous leadership to establish the right structures and processes to significantly improve the standard of medical and dental practice in Seychelles.

Dr Valentin has previously served as principal secretary and special advisor in the Ministry of Health. He has also served for three years on the executive board of the World Health Organisation.
 
Dr Valentin has a first degree in general medical practice from Athens University, Greece and a Master’s degree with distinction in health services management from the University of Manchester in the UK.
