New Year message - ‘Unity and harmony the cornerstone of our democracy’ |03 January 2018

“National Unity will consolidate our success and reinforce our social coherence.  National Unity is the backbone of reconciliation and the cornerstone of our democracy.”

This comes in a New Year message from Jules Hoareau, the chairperson of the 2017 National Theme Committee.

The full text of Mr Hoareau’s message reads:

“As we conclude another year marking also the culmination of the 2017 theme ‘Seselwa: en sel desten’ it is an important time to reflect on our accomplishments and challenges as a country.

“Despite our differences we belong to one human race and we share a common identity as Seychellois. As we embrace a new year, I would like to call on everyone to unite as a Nation in love, harmony and in peace.  Our country is at an exciting crossroad and we need to appreciate that as citizens our differences must be the source of our strength.

“National Unity will consolidate our success and reinforce our social coherence.  National Unity is the backbone of reconciliation and the cornerstone of our democracy.

“As the chairperson of the 2017 National Theme Committee, I would like to emphasise on the need to uphold the values of unity, peace and mutual respect in our country. The theme ‘Seselwa: en sel desten’ must ‘live on’ in the hearts of our citizens and we must all strive to make our communities a better place.

“Our diversity is the beauty and the strength of our nation and unity is our compass to prosperity. Let 2018 be ‘Seychellois Unite’ and may the joy of this festive season and the prosperity of the new year be the starting point for National Unity and Peace in our country. On behalf of all members of the National Theme Committee I would like to wish everyone aHappy New Year 2018.”
