Belonie secondary school Demolition under way |13 January 2018

Demolition of one of the oldest blocks of the Belonie secondary school started as planned on Thursday January 11.

Preparation work to demolish the block started on Wednesday by Vijay Construction workers.

It is anticipated that the demolition work will be partly completed by January 31 and this will include the carting away of all debris.

The building being demolished was originally built in 1867 and was called the St Louis College. It was later named St John Bosco in the 1950s until the early 1980s when it was renamed Belonie school under the zoning system.

All students in secondary 3, 4 and 5 will be staying at the Belonie secondary school, while the 113 students who were to join the school at secondary level will now be going to the English River secondary school instead.

Another 106 students of secondary 2 will go to the Persévérance regional secondary school.

Some of the teachers will also move to the schools the students will be joining.
