‘Visit of Indonesian delegation timely,’ says finance minister |13 March 2018

The visit of a delegation from Indonesia to Seychelles is “timely” now that Seychelles is finalising its long-term development plan for the next 15 years.

The remark was made by the Minister for Finance, Trade and Economic Planning, Dr Peter Larose, after the Indonesian delegation paid a courtesy call on him yesterday in his office at Liberty House.

The delegation is headed by Dr N. Hassan Wirajuda, special envoy of the President of the Republic of Indonesia.

Welcoming and thanking Dr Wirajuda for the courtesy visit, Minister Larose noted the long-standing diplomatic relationship between Seychelles and Indonesia.

He mentioned that the visit of the delegation is timely given that Seychelles is in the process of finalising its long-term development plan for the next 15 years.

“Besides, employing its own resources to finance its national development, Seychelles would need also the support of its development partners, and Indonesia is one of the key partners,” Minister Larose said.

The minister identified areas of possible cooperation and collaboration such as: double taxation agreement, foreign direct investments (FDIs), small and medium-size enterprises (SMEs), trade (import of commodities), infrastructure development, renewable energy, telecommunication, Blue economy, air services, tourism, transport and training.

In his closing remarks, Dr Larose thanked Dr Wirajuda and said “today’s meeting presents us with a great opportunity to convert our memorandum of understanding (MoU) into commitments, which will help us in our aspirations to take the country forward. We look forward to enhancing the excellent relationship between our two countries for our people”.
