Miss Seychelles 2012 … Another World beauty pageant-Winners receive their prizes

During the pageant which was held last Saturday at Le Meridien Barbarons, 20-year-old Sherlyn Furneau was crowned Seychelles’ beauty queen.

Miss Furneau and the other winners received their prizes in the presence of chief executive officer of the Seychelles Tourism Board (STB) Elsia Grandcourt, staff of STB and organisers and sponsors of the pageant.

The newly crowned Miss Seychelles has won diamond jewellery from Jouel of Kenwyn House; one flight ticket to Mauritius sponsored by Air Seychelles; one week holiday at Le Meridien St Regis in Mauritius sponsored by Le Meridien Barbarons; R10,000 from Intelvision; invitation to attend polo open event in Czech Republic with flight and accommodation from BMW and weekend for two at Desroches Island Resort with transfer.

Other prizes include weekend for two in BMW transfer with champagne sponsored by Four Seasons Hotel; one smart phone with special mobile package for one year from Cable and Wireless; Intelvision bundle connection worth R3,000; one full body massage from Citronella Beauty Spa.
She has also received 10 dresses from Butterfly Ribbons and three from Lolita Karma to be worn in the Miss World beauty pageant.

Miss Furneau, who will soon represent Seychelles in the international beauty pageant, will also become the country’s tourism ambassador, develop important skills in public relations, marketing and negotiation.

She will also represent Seychelles in trade fairs both locally and internationally.
Miss Furneau also took the Miss Personality title, winning R10,000 by Tourism ambassador Jimmy Butt; one ticket to South Africa from Air Seychelles; jewellery sponsored by Seychelles Night Out and PADI Scuba Diving programme from Big Blue Divers.

Shanice Hoareau, who was crowned first princess, received diamond jewellery from Jouel; holiday package to Italy given by Studio Romano and air fares from Air Seychelles; weekend at La Reserve; R7,500 and Cable TV connection with one month subscription from Intelvision; dinner for two at Northholme Hilton Resort; prepaid starter pack and top-up voucher worth R1,000 from Cable and Wireless and a facial treatment from Chez Ketseen beauty Parlour.
The 19-year-old also won the People’s Choice award, receiving a ticket to Mauritius sponsored by Air Seychelles.

Second princess, Natasha Robinson received diamond jewellery from Jouel; one weekend for two at Acajou Hotel; R5,000 and internet connection from Intelvision and one ticket to South Africa given by Air Seychelles.

As Miss Photogenic, she received another ticket to South Africa from the airline; R15,000 from State Assurance Corporation Seychelles; one full day at the Peppermint Spa; jewellery from Seychelles Night Out and PADI Scuba Diving programme sponsored by Big Blue Divers.

During the ceremony, Christina Fondamière also received her prizes as she was judged as the one wearing the best evening gown during the pageant.

She received R10,000 from Tourism ambassador Jimmy Butt; one ticket to Mauritius from Air Seychelles; jewellery from Seychelles Night Out and PADI Scuba Diving programme sponsored by Big Blue Divers.

Vanessa Adam, who won the Miss Bonjour title, has received one month salary of R3,000 for one year to be the face of local perfume company Bonjour.

Addressing the guests at the prize giving ceremony, Mrs Grandcourt said re-launching the pageant has presented a unique chance to breathe life into the soul of a happening that is close to the hearts of all Seychellois.

To the girls, she said they are all winners and that their collective and individual beauty, personality and poise have served a purpose in helping to raise the profile of Seychelles and another aspect of its beauty.

She later presented the girls with a copy of a CD, with photos of their journey through to the contest.
The girls also paraded in dresses designed by top Italian fashion designer Michele Miglionico, who will also be sponsoring the crowned Miss Seychelles’ wardrobe for the Miss World beauty pageant.

All sponsors of the pageant also received a certificate of recognition from STB.
