Aviation authority contributes to national tree planting campaign

The SCAA employees on Praslin contributing their share to the ‘Green Wave Project’

Two hundred plants sponsored by the environment and forestry divisions on Praslin were planted along the coast in the vicinity of the Côte d’Or market, a place which has not been spared from coastal erosion.

“Out of 20,000 plants being targeted by the campaign, SCAA planted 200, or 1% of the total. If every organisation follows SCAA example, then this will contribute to the successful achievement of the Green Wave Project,” said Kisnan Tamatave, the overall co-coordinator of the activity.

The tree-planting exercise coincided with World Environment Day on June 5, the biggest and most widely celebrated global day for positive environment action.

This year’s theme is Green Economy: Does it include you?
As the custodian operator of civil aviation in Seychelles, SCAA is a significant contributor in the socio-economic development of the country. As inscribed in its mission and value statements, preservation of environment is at the forefront of the organisation’s daily business.

A few hours before the tree-planting exercise the group of employees endured a highly physical hike in the forest of Salazie where they admired some interesting endemic species that are part of the fascinating flora and fauna of the Seychelles.
