Master Zhang evaluates wushu progress here

Master Zhang – vice professor and Wushu teacher at the Beijing Institute of Petrochemical Technology – has since Monday been following sessions run by Laushi Seddick Fanny and Laushi Jocelyn Cupidon.

Chinese ambassador Shi Zhongjun, Jean Larue of the sports department and community development special advisor Dan Frichot were present for the Monday session at the Omnisports Gym, Roche Caïman.

Ambassador Shi presented Laushi Seddick with a batch of equipment which the Seychelles Wushu Association will use to further develop the sport in Seychelles.

Master Zhang, who majored in Wushu and graduated from the Beijing Sport University, has been teaching Wushu and Tai Chi for 20 years and once worked in the China Cultural Centre in Benin for three years as a Wushu teacher.

He visited Seychelles last year and ran Tai Chi sessions from October 17-21 at the NSC multipurpose hall.

Wushu relates to different dimensions of Chinese culture – traditional Chinese medicine, literature, music, etc. The present sessions will go on until July 18 and all classes run from 5pm to 6.30pm.

The Monday and Thursday sessions are reserved for members of the Seychelles Wushu Association.
Members of the public who wish to follow the sessions can do so on Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday from 5pm to 6.30pm at the same venue.
