Local team set to observe by-election

The mission will issue a preliminary statement, a few days following the tabulation and announcement of elections results.

A communiqué from the CDWS said as per international norms and standards of election observation, the local observers will act “in total neutrality, impartiality and fairness”.

A special mission briefing will be held today in the conference room of the Liaison Unit for Non-governmental Organisations (Lungos) at Orion Mall whereby the observers will officially receive their accreditation in the presence of representatives from the Electoral Commission.

The CDWS is calling on all candidates contesting in this election to uphold all the democratic values and maintain a high level of respect during and after the conduct of this election.

The CDWS is also calling on electorates of the Anse Aux Pins constituency to actively and respectfully exercise their civic duty.

“The presence of election observers, notably domestic observers, is crucial and it is in line with international best practice, hence the CDWS is committed in ensuring that the forthcoming by-election is conducted in transparency and impartiality,” said the communiqué.
A hotline 2600612 is already operational, the communiqué added.
