Young sailors receive help ahead of African Optimist Championship

The four sailors are aged 11 to 15 years old and they will leave for Dar Es Salam on Thursday August 16 accompanied by Seychelles Yachting Association (SYA) chairman Alain Alcindor.

They will take part in a training camp in Dar Es Salam before rubbing shoulders with other young African sailors in the championship.

Three local businesses, namely Mason’s Travel, Vijay Construction and H. Savy Insurance, have responded positively to SYA’s call for sponsorship and they all handed over their contributions in a short ceremony at the Sail Training Scheme on Thursday afternoon.

Vijay Construction and Mason’s Travel each gave R25,000, while H. Savy Insurance has sponsored each sailor a travel insurance which will provide them a cover for R50,000 each for medical expenses in the event of an accident or personal accident and cover for the luggage as well.

The National Sports Council is also financing part of the young sailors’ trip.
